We're a nonprofit alliance of foresters, scientists and volunteers restoring forests, coastlines and clean energy access — one project, one village, one volunteer at a time.
2,847,000 trees surviving and counting · 43 countries & regions
A small core team, a very large community, and a simple rule: local people lead, we support.
Green Horizon Initiative began in 2011 as a handful of foresters replanting a single burned valley in the Pacific Northwest. Today we're a global alliance of 61,000 volunteers, 240 partner communities and a deliberately small full-time team.
We keep overhead under 11 cents of every dollar, publish every budget openly, and measure success in trees that are still alive three years after planting — not in seedlings distributed.
"We don't plant trees for the photos. We plant them for the decade after everyone stops looking."
